Dog Beach, Del Mar / Solana Beach Camino del Mar (Highway 101) & Via de la Valle

  • Dogs allowed off-leash only from September to June.  Leashes required during busier summer season
  • Paid parking available, as well as limited free street parking.  Note posted signs.  Also note, parking tickets flow freely in Del Mar, so do ‘Pay & Display’

A lovely small beach area on the border of Solana Beach and Del Mar, but often over-crowded with rambunctious water-loving canines.  Great to burn off excess energy, maybe not so ideal for a quiet stroll on the beach.

Capehart Park, La Jolla / PB Soledad Mountain Road & Felspar

  • Two fenced pens on turfed areas: one for small dogs and one for large or all dogs

Rather small, centrally located park.

  • A one mile stretch for your dog to run and play in the water.
  • There is a 5.2 mile asphalt path around the island for dog walkers.
Parking is free and allowed along the entire stretch of the isle.
    Hours are from 6:00 a.m. – 10 p.m. everyday

Fiesta Island, located near Sea World, is a unique recreational area that is almost entirely leash-free for the enjoyment of you and your pet.  With plenty of room to roam, it’s easy to find your own space and let Fido stretch his legs!

Located in Dog-friendly Ocean Beach, this is the original dog beach in San Diego County and can be enjoyed leash-free any time of the year. Plenty of room is available to play in the sand or romp in the waves at the mouth of the San Diego River.

Dusty Rhodes Neighborhood Park, OB Sunset Cliffs Boulevard between Nimitz and West Point Loma Boulevard

  • One acre park offers one area for all dogs

This park is a nice grassy play area for pets to meet, and there may be plans for expansion, which would only reinforce OB’s reputation as one of the dog-friendliest neighborhoods!

Dog Beach, Coronado Ocean Boulevard near Sunset Park

  • Street parking along Ocean Boulevard, in front of Sunset Park.
  • No facilities
  • Water available
  • This beach is divided into Dog and Non-Dog areas.  Observe posted signs, and follow the trail along the fence of the North Island Naval Base to the water’s edge, staying to the north of the public beach area

Tucked away at the north end of the beach next to the Naval Air Station, this dog beach might be San Diego’s finest. With plenty of room to play and many fewer visitors than the other dog beaches, Coronado’s is typically cleaner and quieter — a wonderful getaway with your pet, without having to travel faraway.

South Cays Dog Run, Coronado Coronado Cays Boulevard, off of Silver Strand Boulevard

  • Unfenced dog run area that borders Coronado Cays Blvd and the Silver Strand (I-75) Freeway separated by a four foot brick wall
  • No water stations for your dog in this park

As in any off-leash area, but especially in this park, you must be able to control your pet off leash and he or she cannot be aggressive.  Shared park areas are a unique environment, and it’s important to be good ambassadors for our four-footed friends!
