Not only known for it’s fishing industry, did you know that Point Loma has deep roots in aviation, as well?
In the 1920’s a dirt airfield known as ‘Dutch Flats’ was the site of Charles Lindbergh’s airplane, ‘The Spirit of Saint Louis’, built by San Diego’s Ryan aeronautical Company. The location is now part of the Midway neighborhood.
Point Loma guards the portal from San Diego Bay to the Pacific. From Cabrillo National Monument to La Playa & Shelter Island, Point Loma offers small intimate beaches, stellar tide pools, fishing, dockage, and is a renowned boaters paradise.
Shelter Island plays host to numerous marinas & resorts. The area offers a small beach, calmer waters, large grassy parks for picnics, paved walkways, boat launch and spectacular views of downtown.
