“Just to the south of the Children’s Pool is a beach popularly called Wipeout, perhaps because of the rocky shoreline coupled with hazardous moving water.  Just south of the beach, Coast Boulevard Park offers a perfect vantage point for a bird’s eye view of La Jolla’s beaches.  At low tides this area offers great tidepools and good collections of shells to discover.  Mmm, salad bar…”  Sandbag C. Gull

Although swimming at Wipeout Beach is not recommended, under the proper conditions this area offers wonderful diving with dramatic undersea arches and shelves teeming with lobster.  Sitting just below Coast Boulevard Park itself is the area known as Hospitals, a great reef  and surfbreak, but a poor beach.  Around the point, Whispering Sands offers more reefs to explore but little in the way of sand before the beach disappears in the shadow of priceless waterfront homes.
