South Carlsbad State Beach & Campground offers 220 campsites and is sometimes less crowded than its southern counterpart, San Elijo Sate Beach.  Reservations are available up to seven months in advance, with campers poised to book spaces as soon as reservations are open. Popular weekends during peak season fill up months in advance. Use the above link for the campground. Amenities include a seasonal campground store, showers, restrooms, BBQ pits, rustic amphitheater (for summer events) and stairs to the sand.

  • The southernmost end of the campground has the lowest bluffs and easiest access to the beach level

Take Interstate 5 to Carlsbad: Exit at Palomar Airport Road & head west toward ocean. Take Highway 101 South to campground entrance. (Note: There is NO left turn into campground entrance from northbound Coast Hwy 101 – You have to pass the entrance and make a U-Turn when possible)
