Coastal Carlsbad Village is a charming and walkable neighborhood. Enjoy the beach, treat yourself to a latte, grab a bite, or browse shops from surfing to antiques, all without moving the car!
So named after Karlsbad, Bohemia, when mineral water seemingly identical to that of the famous Bohemian health resort, was discovered along this stretch of coastline. Carlsbad boomed as people were lured by the claims of health & benefits of the water, at the turn of the twentieth century. The Alt Karlsbad wells were restored in 1994, and the historic Alt Karlsbad building was re-opened as the Carlsbad Mineral Water Spa you see above.
Victorian buildings adorn Carlsbad Boulevard and the old Carlsbad Train Station off Washington Street now serves as the Visitor Information Bureau. Carlsbad dining ranges from laid-back seafood & pizza joints to romantic French & Italian fine dining. Whether your budget is tight or lavish, Carlsbad’s Village by the Sea offers something for everyone.
