San Diego’s 2nd Annual Doggie Street Festival

Time For A Walk

Liberty Station is going to the dogs…

This Sunday [Feb. 28th] from 9 am to 4 pm in NTC Park, over 35 different shelters and rescue organizations will come together for the Doggie Street Festival, helping animals in need of a good home.  The Festival is dedicated to increasing public awareness of pet homelessness, as well as educating the public on issues pertaining to animal safety, health and responsible pet ownership.  The event is free and open to the public, and will include entertainment, obedience and fitness demonstrations.  Also featured will be local pet-centric companies, such as Leash Your Fitness, Wag’n Tails, Muttique, Dogs and the City Daycare & Spa, and many others devoted to pet care, health and well being.

Shamu takes the stage

After weeks of rumor and speculation around the whale tank water cooler – the change of ownership is now official. SeaWorld San Diego, and other parks formerly held by Anheuser-Busch InBev under the leadership of Busch Entertainment Corporation (10 in all), have been acquired by Blackstone Group.

Hang 20 At Loews Coronado Surf Dog Competition

Some serious surf hounds hit the waves this weekend in Imperial Beach for the the 4th Annual Loews Coronado Bay Resort Surf Dog Competition.

“Slap me sum paw, I ain’t no drooling kook!”

With tails held high and paws waxed just so, dozens of brave canines took their turn on the line to the delight of fans from far and wide. Meanwhile on the beach, waiting riders swaggered about sniffing out the competition and barking up the judges…

An event so hot that it even made it on TMZ.com!

Spike & Wilson Of Most Handsome Fame

“So, I met up with Wilson to see how he’s found celebrity..”

My pal Wilson won the  Most Handsome title at the 14th Annual Ugly Dog Contest last March. I was curious to see how fame had affected my old friend.

Well, he said fame hadn’t changed him much. He still gets the same kibble, sports the same leash and collar. But I couldn’t help but notice a spring in his step and faster wag to his tail.

May 14th, 2009 is a special day for Hornblower Cruises of San Diego and Helen Woodward Animal Center, as they host their 9th Annual Pet Rescue Day on the Bay.

For the small donation of a clean towel or blanket, you and your (leashed) pet can hop aboard for one of their hourly cruises around the San Diego Bay, at a price you can’t beat! Just fetch your old towels & go!

Animal Planet Attends 14th Annual Ugly Dog Contest At The Del Mar Fairgrounds

I took JT to the 14th Annual Ugly Dog Contest sponsored by the Del Mar Kiwanis on March 8th…

“Dude, there was so much tail, I didn’t know which way to sniff!”

Crowds of four & two footed spectators amassed in record numbers, including Animal Planet cameras at our own Del Mar Fairgrounds! It was an exciting day full of highs & lows (I lost in my group, some Botoxed Schnauzer won…I can still taste the bile of defeat)

“Chomper”- Ugliest Dog 2009 Grand Prize Winner

Chomper... Ugliest Dog!

Man, I love this guy. He’s a mutt who hails from the San Diego Animal Rescue, where he is a proud ward and beloved Mascot.

I think the photo on the right taken by Don Boomer at North County Times really captures his aura. Way to lick em’ Chomper!
