SST Lands On San Diego Beach

Author: Spike , September 28th, 2009

“I am a son of a beach…”

“I won’t say which beach though, because I dig them all. Actually, I dig at them all, but I digress… When I want to find the perfect beach, I go to SanDiegoSunCoast.com. They have pictures and details (like whether I need a leash or not) so I don’t go without a clue. Like here. No dogs, no humans, no fun. Just this dumb beachy-map thing some other son of a beach left behind. So don’t fly blind, check out their Find Your Beach section first!”

My name is Spike, and I approve this ad. Spike “Strip” Taylor [SST]

Author: Lance I'mstrong, September 23rd, 2009

Rob Machado Surf Experience

The hugely popular Rob Machado Surf Experience festival returns once again to Cardiff State Beach “Seaside” this weekend, September 26th-28th. If it’s anything like previous RMSE events, it’ll be SRO! Here’s some history. From 1996 to 2005, The Experience brought thousands of surfers & music lovers to Cardiff for the event and  competition. More and more came each year, so much so, that the event quickly outgrew itself. The Experience had to take a hiatus after the 2005 event, which also featured the hugely popular band Switchfoot.

The beach then grew quiet, but the golf course did not

“OK, so this has nothing whatsoever to do with the beach. However, National Geographic loves it, and NG loves the beach, so that’s good enough for us.”

Ah, nothing is better than a perfect day at the beach! The warm caress of  wind and sun upon your face… The sound of waves rolling up to the shore… The cigarette butts in the soft sand between your toes…

“Rats, I was having a zen moment until the butt crack!”

Trash happens. As much as we try to keep our beaches clean, trash still happens. Whether it’s ritzy trash in La Jolla or recycled trash in Encinitas – from cigarette butts to plastics wrappers and bottles… it’s trash. Here’s your chance to get your butt moving, and give back to the environment that gives you so much…

Cannon Shots Fired As The Lynx Attacks San Diego Harbor

Author: Jocelyne , September 8th, 2009

For centuries, the San Diego bay has enjoyed a rich and diverse maritime history. Since the arrival of Juan Cabrillo in the 1500’s, our storied bay has played host to vibrant sea trades, Naval  strongholds, fabled ships both young and old, fishing fleets, cruise ships and even Russian submarines. Why, it’s only fitting that the countries largest ‘floating museum’, the San Diego Maritime Museum, should also grace her shores. Home of the tall ships Star of India, Californian and the HMS Surprise-perhaps jealousy is what has prompted the outcast schooner Lynx to throw down the gauntlet?

“Things that go boom in the bay…”

The West Coast Answer To Central Park, Mission Bay In San Diego

Author: Susi , September 3rd, 2009

Can’t decide whether you want to swim, kite surf, sail, bike, or cook up some burgers?  Head to Mission Bay and do it all! Nothing is better than a day spent around the water, then  around a bright bonfire as the sun dips over the horizon.  Mission Bay is San Diego’s  very own answer to New York City’s Central Park. Winding its way through 27 miles of sand, resort hotels and marinas, Mission Bay spreads over a diverse 4,000 acres of water and green-space. Nestled between urban and beach, Mission Bay offers a plethora of outdoor activities, sandy coves and water from bay to ocean.

The parks and beach areas situated along Mission Bay welcome everyone.  Parking is free, handicapped resources are generally available, picnic facilities abound, and water sport rentals are close at hand.  Here you can still find fire pits [for now...]

“No more fire pits, why not?” Read on…
