Recession Causes Depression Among Chickens

“How can the sky be falling if the sun is still shining?”

Ah, San Diego…the skies are often sunny here on the coast.  Even if rain is forecast, the odds of feeling a drop of rain is slim. Sunny skies can temporarily blind our minds from the gloomy economy we find ourselves shadowed in.  But…it’s talked about around the office, and at the dinner table: money’s tight, and getting tighter.

Maybe the pretty blue ceiling we admire might be cracked. Did I just feel something? Could a piece have chipped free and hit me in the head? People should be warned, band together! It’s the only way to survive.

“Call in the proper authorities! We MUST get this situation under control! The next errant piece could knock my feathers off. I feel my world spinning like a chicken with its head cut off, argh!”

Flock…fear is not an option!

South Beach Bar Washes Up On Ocean Beach

“There’s something fishy about Ocean Beach…”

Living on the coast promises the freshest fish. Living up the coast from Mexico promises the best tacos. But tacos and fish belong to very different food groups, according to my taste buds.

Finally one day, (caving under pressure) I ordered one to satisfy a friend. A beam of light streamed from the clouds at first bite. (Well, not really) Where had this elegantly simple solution been?

Light, flaky fried fish with crisp shredded cabbage and a slightly spicy white sauce…all in a handy wrap to eat on the run.

“I was in for a little surprise…”

Pacific View School… Encinitas Public Domain or Private Profit?

Pacific View Elementary School sits vacant

“A Podunk school on the outskirts of some forgotten desert city? Nope. How about 3 acres of prime coastal real estate 1 block from the beach? Yep.”

At the corner of Fourth and F Street in Encinitas sits a paradox. A huge parcel of prime coastal real estate wearing nothing but some dilapidated buildings and a rusty chain link fence.  Born in 1953, and closed in 2003, here sits Pacific View Elementary School, still waiting for a community-approved purpose in life once again.

“A new issue hits the table…much like that unwanted second helping that’s  plopped on your plate after you’re all finished eating…”
